Beating arthritis is all in your head: Pain of joint condition can be eased through counselling “More CBT Bollocks”….

Arthritis sufferers could have their pain  eased by learning to cope with the condition through counselling, scientists  have claimed.

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) could  help rheumatoid arthritis victims manage their pain by allowing them to control  their debilitating symptoms.

Experts believe psychotherapy treatment works  because it helps people focus on overcoming negative thoughts, which alter the  way they feel.

A resulting positive outlook helps keep pain  and adversity in context, allowing arthritis sufferers to cope with the  condition.

The 104 rheumatoid arthritis sufferers who  took part in a recent study were selected for one of several  treatments.

The study, carried out by Louise Sharpe from  the University of Sydney and  published in the journal Psychotherapy and  Psychosomatics, compared CBT  with its separate components of cognitive therapy  and behavioural  therapy.

Patients  who took part were analysed at the  start, post-treatment and six months  later on, where disease activity, joint  function, disability and  psychological functioning were measured.

  1. I went to pain managment and was told that i dont need morphine for my pain. Just imagine im a candle melting. I could be any colour candle i wanted to be. I dont think she was happy when i asked what jesus juice she had been drinking.

    • Something very similar happened to me when I attended “Pain Management”, I was told to throw my pain away??….

  2. Yeah right! I got the same sort of garbage from a pain management place and asked if the ‘doctor’ had ever gone through any severe pain themselves. They hadn’t and still insisted it was all in the mind. This sort of crap just encourages the idea that if you are suffering it is your own fult for not trying hard enough. A pernicious and dangerous idea that DWP will cream themselves over and use to justify the so called medical exams. For those of us who have it trying hard to control the pain is the least of our problems, getting a doctor to listen is much, much harder.

  3. I’ve done CBT. It’s good to do, good to know the mechanics, but is not a cure-all solution. There is a temptation to offer CBT as a cheap therapy and blame the patient for not trying hard enough if it doesn’t fix things.

    • The mechanics of what Alec?

That’s exactly why CBT Therapy was introduced, it’s a cheap alternative to other treatments, the government and the DWP love it…

  4. This is what i have been saying since i first joined this site.
    Experts………
If you read any scientific journal and like this artical itself you get the following…..

EXPERTS…… ‘BELIEVE’ this ‘MAY’ be the way to resolve arthritic pain.
SIX MONTH TRIALS have been conducted

like the drug trials of all medication (synthetic chemicals), there is only ever weeks of trial, that do not compare to lifetimes of drugging patients.

Science is bull medical science is dangerous bull, because its all based on what MAY be and what a bunch of arrogant wankers say they BELIEVE and not about what they know.
Read any medical journal and it is always about belief not knowledge… So! Like the above comment, its pure idle faith but in the false God of Science, that does not exist, is far more brutal and fataly inclined than todays churches combined.

  5. I meant to add, hopefully some of you will recall, in a former post a few months ago when i explained to both Chris and Bbest, my arthritic onset was due to the medication and affected me down only the right side of my body, deforming my shoulder wrist and hand, since having spent a 20 excruciatingly painful months reducing minimal doses of that evil poison, my symptoms of arthritic pain have subsided, my shoulder is still deformed but altering slowly back into place, my fingers returning back to straight and less difficult to use and less stiff……. So! The drugs were evidently to blame or am i just confused????
Medical science advancement what a f*cking joke!

  6. ah i see its all in ones head have they been out in all wethers for 41yrs and do manual work i think my hand and knees have something to complain about and the pain can get unbearable at times and no amount of mind games will stop the pain who are these quacks who come up with this useless information if they being payed for this they should give their money back false pretenses one thinks jeff3

  7. I’d like to see a trial where these ‘experts’ had pins inserted under their nails and be told they had to keep them in for a week and then ‘think the pain away’. It’s almost laughable that someone who doesn’t have to live with pain, can advise people on how to cope with theirs. I’m speaking as someone who has to take opiates every 4 hours if I want to have any life. And even then, they don’t kill it completely, just make it bearable.

    • My point exactly, did u know, drugs aka medication is merely toxic forms of natural cures, pHARMa basically takes a nayural substance replicates it from synthetics and tells you it works!. Yet a little while down the line, side effects (aka adverse reactions) occur and produce new disease that a body cannot fight because the substance is alien and damaging to the organic system.

  8. Not all scientific or medical ideas are bad, some are obviously but we do have medicine a great deal to be thankful for…

  9. We lived, survived and evolved without it for a far lot longer, look at history, only in the last two hundred years have diseases anew been to come along.
Thats the thing youre duped into believing meds are all good ao at least you need them.
The body deteriorates nowadays because of drugs.
Im not saying anyone can survive today without them, we rely on them like vaccines etc, its ‘them’ that cause the conditions in the first place.
Yeah i know its hard to grasp and medical professionals mock me.
Yet i see history as evidence, not one medical professional can explain to me the rise in damaging diseases since the mid 19th century. Instead im mocked and called stupid.. Yet i question fact that evidences the rise in certain epidemics,
example….. Downs/autism/bipolar……. All are attributed to medicines at that time and different strengths.
Note. More mental disease is now marketed by pharma since anti psychotics and anti depressants came in the 1990s, we have, manic depression, bipolar, unipolar, adhd, gad, sad….. Its all a bullshit scheme to make money how can people not see it?
I learned the hard way, but, my upside is, i lived to tell the tale. Im merely trying to explain to others.

Theres so many newer forms of cancer nowadays all blamed on smoking etc, its not at all just attributed to a cig. Its vaccines, medicines breaking the body down and medication is synthetics mixed wth animal bacteria, theres no way any study has proven drugs are good for u. No study that studies a drug on a life time basis because wwe are drugged several drugs that mix and mutate.
Yes i take pain killers, i take them, im not saying i am the expert of expert i just know as common sense should scream to us all, drugs day in day out, year after year will do harm not good.
We take drugs and rely on them become addicted and we are screwed, our generation is screwed, its the kids we need teach Drs aint the gods of science and health, as this article proves.

    • I must admit, beyond the pain relief, I do use the pain-killers in a similar way as I did the alcohol; to recalibrate my metabolism. Only, it is by far the least worse option, I feel.

Better but not good – I need them as much as they would proffer the argument to substitute them for CB-whatever, whatever it is they seem to be proposing [in the sales pitch]. My argument is as good as their’s at least. I’d certainly go head-to-head vis a vis: bullshit – then I’d ask them about their pain!

  10. I won’t do my usual rant about how CBT leads to “revolving door” medicine as am very tired today! To those who beleive arthritis pain is mainly in your attitude I say “Nah mate, I think you’ll find it’s in the joints pal-look at MRI scans and X-Rays and see the physical abnormalities!”

I’ve been around the block with all this nonsense. My pain is ONLY helped by rest and drugs-thank you for the drugs! My life is a living hell without them. All need to wake up to the unpalatable truth that this is another exercize in the highly popular game probably entitled “Blame the Cripple”. It’s a cost cutting and Victorian morals game. That is all it is. pure and simple. beware!

  11. Perverse indeed, and there being no cure for what they themself created, they resort to blaming the patient…. Perverse and sadistic

  12. Back to Victorian “don’t think the disabled are worthy of even the basics!” Yes, perverse and sadistic by some although some CBT therapists and many psychologists believe they are helping-they are only helping the NHS to reach short-term misleading and therefore meaningless targets. Their training is at fault. It’s not likely to change soon as the Gov has wet dreams about these sorts of “initiatives”. They’ve clearly GOT TO GO!
P.S. Doubt if 6 sessions of CBT would change the Condems into anything worthy, do you?

  13. and next week they are going to cure migraine by shoving a carrot up your backside.
What ever next.ATOS are going to tell the truth and admit they are a french company and just wanted to screw the English.
next I will be classed as a demon and I have the devil in me. epilepsy back to the dark ages we go.
    twats

  14. Good point Philhow. And next I’ll be classed as a witch as in previous centuries, because I have unattractive arthritic hands, grow herbs and have a cat. Hmmm. By the way, they are planning a parsnip rather than a carrot- no pain,no gain eh?!

    • Indeedly so Lou.
Gov cant use religion against us and make us all witches and demons so instead they make us the scum scroungers of the day/era.
Note history expresses death to all to those who dont fit, who cannot be controlled etc, as i say in many posts, religion, politics, monarchy and all as such are one big elite force.
The NWO is the same ol same ol facsist game, only on clamp down.

      • Yes Ann, spot on. However, turn it on it’s head and they are the ones who don’t fit in with us…..pressure is growing on them from so many quarters, let’s make it pressure-cooker pressure. THEY (and their poxy CBT, DWP Welfare Reform Act, tax avoidance, wickedness, psychopathy, subsidised H of C wine,) SHALL NOT PASS. Stay strong all.

        • Strength! My Conservative MP, recently of, and through, the revolving city-door to Parliament, ‘appreciates that I have strong feelings on the matter, but …’ Well, my feelings just got a whole lot stronger – to the point where I have to be careful not to jeopardise the email connection through the generation of compromising ‘profanities’ – But surely thus far she must surely be ‘getting it!’ I’m holding her personally responsible by default of her support of the formulated (her Government) Welfare Reform Bill, entirely – She is the nearest one of them, to me, here. The lies of The City Folk are in paralell to those of Gov-agencies: Atos, A4e, etc. And that’s where she’s coming from, on both counts as far as I’m concerned – The Diplomatic immunity must be about threadbare, by now – She can no longer hide behind it, and all that stuff about the Private Sector providing our vital services fitting in perfectly with her (their) Conservative idealology is over. At least that’s how I put it to her – I wonder if she has a mind to change horses in the middle of the stream? Strength! Give me strength! It’s the financial fag-end of that crap that we’re in right now (and that’s what I just called her, actually) strength of mind held me back from saying more than that, so far. I mean: I shouldn’t have to now the shit’s hitting on the fan of the multi-media c/w all the polical photo-ops climbing on the bandwagon in the blame game, but they’re so obviously in-it-together that who knows what will be the outcome as they start to feed on each other … Yuk!

          • Manus I do admire your tenacity with your dumb Tory MP. I have abandoned arguing with my equally dumb Tory MP and now deal with my Welsh Assembly Member (A.M) who is completely different- a huge breath of fresh air- professional, intelligent, empathic and on the case, compared with Mr.Torysome-Me-and-Mine-Mini-Brain. Perhaps I should launch myself at him again but am very low in energy preparing for 2 appeals: ESA and DLA. Yes, I think the greedies will be on the way out. As you say they will probably soon turn on eachother what with the pressure mounting up and knowing how vicious they all are there should be some ugly scenes- hee hee and eurrgh! Strength! Courage! We shall prevail.

  15. I agree, despite the massive load of the what we are and we have been hit with, we aint given up. Its them whove been made to look fools time and time again.

They shy away from facts, wheras we do not, they lie and spread hate, we do not, etc, we are indeed beating them.
I realise it doesnt seem that way and the struggle is endless but we are causing them hell, we are exposing them and we are making them sweat hard, we certainly have proved we aint…
    1. Stupid
    2. Easy to bully
    3. Broken

So! It was their idiotic belief that. Being disabled and dysfunctional meant we were useless, we were easly targeted and so easily bumped off.
They got more than they bargained for, we can safely have pride in that!

  16. Yeah … I keep at it like I’m running on aggro, sometimes. But they cannot fail to see the results of their counterparts in arrogance, as they finally turn-coat from them: at them! They can’t turn the clock back (not as in the historical clock of actual history where they want to get back the feifdoms and all that, as was the obvious intention) I mean the urgency of the existential fight-or-flight ticking clock, the neo-countdown of select commitees (cross-party but only a tch-tch-tickbox away from themselves) and media contests to get right in there, at them. It’s actually a grotesquely deviant inversion of due process, tch-tch-tch, hoisted on its own petard – it’s the beast that they so often set in motion and it’s hungry for new blood and it will turn on its hubristic capitolist masters. In short: I think the establishment as we know it is fucked!
