Paralympics tickets rip-off: Wheelchair users forced to call high-cost phone line as able-bodied can simply buy online

Paralympic Games organisers have been accused  of discriminating against the disabled after forcing wheelchair users to book  tickets on phone lines costing up to 40p a minute.

A Mail on Sunday investigation has revealed  that those trying to book wheelchair tickets for events have to ring an 0844  number in order to buy tickets or check availability.

Able-bodied people can simply buy them online  from organiser LOCOG without incurring extra costs.

Some disabled people now claim they have  abandoned hope of attending the Games after being kept on hold for long periods  running up large bills before eventually being told there are no tickets  available.

Hundreds have complained about their  treatment on blogs and social networking sites and some have joined a campaign  group on Facebook called ‘Stop the Olympics from discriminating against  wheelchair users!’

  1. i think to make an example of this corrupt gvt in power all should boycott the games, if only to make a stand to gvt, we will always show massive support to the athletes but we dont have to be there to do that, a mass protest outside should do it.

  2. Hunt just said on TV that Condems have done lots for disabled people. Ha! as I have now picked myself up off the ground lets see briefly just what.

WHAT have the Condems done for disabled people
To date their successes include threats of local authorities forcing disabled people back into residential institutions, when the Independent Living Fund is scrapped and care funding transferred to local authorities without being ring-fenced,.
Disabled people being subjected to the horrors of the Work Capability Assessment with increasing numbers of suicides and deaths resulting from that ‘revolving door’ process.
Even one disabled person setting themselves alight outside job centre offices because they were refused ESA and didn’t receive job seekers allowance is one too many.
Segregated education is back on the agenda for disabled children and young people in a big way under this government taking us back 30 years or more.
Disabled people are being left without food, and are being made homeless at an alarming rate.
Disability benefits to meet the extra costs of being disabled are being cut making the extra costs of disability impossible to meet.
