Paralympians now start to worry about losing benefits “They didn’t care during the Paralympic Games”…

Can anyone remember the Paralympic Games this year, how the Paralympians were hailed as “Superhumans” and us ordinary disabled folk as “Scroungers” and Benefit Cheats, anyone remember that?

Well it seems that the Paralympic stars are now afraid of what will happen to them once DLA is removed and PIP is introduced, now they start to take notice, very few of them came out and offered support to us ordinary disabled folk when we asked them to speak out against Atos during the summer especially when you consider it was Atos who were sponsoring the Paralympic Games?

I went on Ade Adepitan’s website/blog and was basically condemned for asking why he or other present or past Olympians weren’t speaking out against what was happening, it is quite telling to see that now the games are over and they’ve had their adulation that they are now wishing to join the fight, they didn’t wish to put themselves on the frontline of the campaign just in case it came back to bite them, putting their personal Paralympic achievements ahead of the fight for dignity & respect for all disabled people has now come back to haunt them.

Tonight Dispatches “Britain On Benefits” will see & hear various Paralympians & others telling us how losing DLA etc will affect them, many I’m sure will tell us it will hamper their ability to participate in their chosen sport, many will tell us that they will no longer be able to get to training etc, how sad is that, for many of us ordinary disabled folk it could mean we actually starve or not be able to buy the extras we need to maintain our basic meagre existence, participating in sport is fantastic and carries many benefits to the individual whether they are disabled or able-bodied, that point in my mind is not in question, the question is a moral one?

How those Paralympians stood by and participated in an event sponsored by the very company who have been responsible for the death of many disabled people throughout the country I don’t and never will understand that personal way of thinking, it is like most modern things today, self & greed seems to encompass all things, doing what’s right by oneself and your fellow citizen’s takes second place.

I hope those Paralympians who lose their benefits and are no longer able to get out and about will think back to the time when they turned their backs on fellow disabled citizens who were fighting to save disability benefits this summer that they themselves are now moaning they might lose, I am angry at their Gaul and temerity in now trying to hijack the fight, when we needed them in the trenches beside us they were back in the safety zone, shame on them…

Paralympians now start to worry about losing benefits “They didn’t care during the Paralympic Games”… — 12 Comments

  1. well paul i had posted to tammy on this before the games but got brushed aside to the olimpic committee well we new whot would happen to them but then they thought ids would ring fence them well its paying up time now i wonder is nelson saying i told you so but then would hold out his hand and say come on over to dwpexamination.org and get help now theres a giant of a man who carred even thou in pain but help those who needed it jeff3

    • Your right Jeffrey, I once had a great deal of respect for Tanni Grey Thompson but sadly I’ve lost that respect.

Many other campaigners have sidled up to her to get some kudos but I shall never do that just to gain some false status.

I thought last nights programme was rather self defeating in many ways, showing someone grooming a horse who has disabilities will just enforce the publics stereotype of disabled people, the public will think all disabled people are fit and able to perform such things when in reality we know that many cannot even wipe their own arses, myself included in that…?

      • While many people are so disabled that they have significant care needs, someone able to groom a horse is no less disabled in some ways. There is not a hierarchy. It’s what they want, divide and conquer. We are all different, but we are fighting the same fight.

I agree the programme needed more balance and inclusion of some ordinary people on DLA.

I don’t get DLA, I “just” have excruciating pain all the time. My pony is the thing that keeps me going, gives me a reason to get up in the mornings. I’m unable to have kids due to my illness, and I’m only ever going to get worse. If I had been able to get DLA I would happily and without a sense of guilt use it for my pony.

The fact that some people are so poor that DLA is a lifeline is a travesty, as really it’s just designed to give us a more level playing field with able bodies and well people. It shouldn’t be a source of income for normal things to my mind. But the fact that it is, should not mean that people who are in a better situation should be reviled by other recipients.

      • Didn’t we have a chat about exactly this, before the disabled olympics ?
As for Lady Grey, what a sell out she is. A disabled person that has her own nest feathered so sod us.
Paul I hope we never need that woman to stand-up(excuse saying) for us. And what did she really do for us lastnight. I can’t think of a dam thing.
        Phil :)

  2. At least the paralympians will still have their sponsorship money to fall back on. Most ordinary disabled folk will have absolutely NOTHING to fall back on.

Talk about jumping on the bandwagon though. They’re only doing it now becuase they have just realised that IDS is also out to shaft them!

  3. I so this coming when these games where being staged and Cameron was there all smiles while inwardly he knew he would use the fact those disabled people could do what they do as a weapon against them.

It did not take much foresight to see this but these people where more interested in the fame and glory instead of the disabled cause.

  4. And not one Para Olympian mentioned the fact that over 250,000 people will lose all their care package and their Carers will lose their Carers Allowance. Not even mentioned once in the C4 program. Atrocious!

  5. yes paul me sometimes wonder how they think he will leave them alone in all this most of us who were getting that little bit of dla will loss it as in pips no bottom rate dla only middle and top so hes seen a good few off there but olimpians how can they think that ids will not do them sorry when they will go to be atossed they get the same treatment fit to work as they shown they are better than us ,but to late to show the public like the games would have done and that really how she passed on my concerns to others to answer for her but then once getting that extra bit of help in the free house will go to ones head some way or other its a pity for they could have shown the world whot this most evil corrupt goverment do to us daily and thats not goood enough ,to htose who have posted or been help by nelson now this giant passed away last friday after his fight with atos dwp giving advice to those who needed it and like joe bloggs his partner on this site dwp are all in shock but another one going to callumslist as he was only 56 died fighting this system abuse of a very evil greedy lot jeff3

  6. The paralympians got into bed with ATOS and IDS in their own self interest. I think they are a bunch of two faced money grabbing gobshites but they are disabled and deserve to be in the fight, albeit way , way late in the game.

There will never be a fairly balanced program on disability and benefits on any of the main television stations because they don’t want to upset a few politicians in case they get boycotted in respect of interviews etc.

  7. We’re fighting for us all… They’re now realising that they should have helped us more bu the sweet moment of glory was too much of a temptation for them and now they’re wondering why they aren’t going to get ringfenced benefit even though most of them have more than enough sponsorship to not have to claim DLA. Personally, those that did/have enough sponsorship should hang their heads in shame and pay the money back like the ‘thieving lieyng b’tard’ MPs!!!
