Police said on Sunday that the 32-year-old Deputy Commander of the Border Security Force (BSF), who allegedly orchestrated A 150 crore contract fraud while deputing at the National Security Guard (NSG) campus in Manesar last year, bought gold coins worth crore rupees five days before his arrest on January 12

Police said on Sunday that the 32-year-old Deputy Commander of the Border Security Force (BSF), who allegedly orchestrated A contract fraud of 150 crores while on deputation at the National Security Guard (NSG) campus in Manesar last year, bought gold coins worth crores of rupees five days before his arrest on January 12.

By Saturday, police had recovered gold ornaments and coins worth more than 1 crore from the home of kingpin Praveen Yadav’s brother-in-law who was assigned to deputize at the NSG.

Police say Praveen was planning to flee the country with her family members and was in contact with her friends and some business people in the US and UK.

Preet Pal Sangwan, deputy police commissioner (crime), said Praveen knew he would be arrested as soon as victims asked him to return money after learning he had tricked them. “The complainants had learned in November that he was no longer assigned to the NSG and had started calling him, but he had stopped returning their calls. He went into solitary confinement, after which the victims began to file complaints with the police. They also went to his village of Farrukhnagar to speak to his father, but even his phone was off,” he said.

Police said the Economic Crimes Wing (EOW) of Gurugram Police were scanning Praveen’s bank accounts and verifying all transactions in the private company he had set up.

Sangwan said a team led by Sandeep Kumar, head of Manesar Criminal Investigation Unit, arrested Praveen from Zirakpur in Punjab within 72 hours of the first case being registered at Manesar police station on 9 January.

Police said the deputy commander posed as an IPS officer stationed at NSG Manesar and provided fake construction contracts for various works inside the campus.

A retired San Jose police officer was found guilty Friday of committing more than $1 million in insurance fraud and $18 million in money laundering after he exploited workers at a private security company he operated without the knowledge of the police department, prosecutors said.

Robert Foster, 48, and his wife owned Atlas Private Security and conspired to pocket millions of dollars by paying employees off the books, underreporting employee injuries, not paying employees overtime and by reporting false pay.

Through these and several other schemes, Foster and his wife reduced the company’s insurance premiums and taxes. Both have not contested a series of fraud charges.

The couple also discouraged employees from reporting wage theft violations and workplace injuries.

In one case, prosecutors say, an underground security guard faced a $1 million medical bill after being seriously injured in an accident while driving a company vehicle, and Foster told the insurance company that he was not an Atlas employee.

Investigators later found the guard was driving an Atlas vehicle and wearing an Atlas uniform at the time of the crash.

Foster and his wife also used a contractor cloaking scheme to avoid paying millions of dollars in taxes, workers’ compensation insurance and overtime, prosecutors said. Their employees were paid by a separate company which had no knowledge of workers’ hours or wages, but simply transferred money from the Fosters company to the employees.

“Exploitation takes a heavy toll on workers,” the Santa Clara County District said. Atti. Jeff Rosen said in a press release. “Our office does not condone the victimization of workers and will prosecute those responsible – no matter who they are.”

Foster will be sentenced to three years in county jail and two years of mandatory supervision, prosecutors said; his wife faces one year in prison and five years of probation. Foster will reimburse more than $1 million to Everest National Insurance and the state’s Employee Development Department. He is also facing a blanket restitution order to reimburse affected employees.

Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes is expected to be sentenced on September 26 for defrauding investors in the blood testing startup, according to a court file filed Wednesday.

Holmes, 37, was convicted on January 3 of three counts of fraud and one count of conspiring to defraud private investors in the company. She remains free on a $ 500,000 bond secured by properties.

Holmes plans to ask the judge handling his case to overturn his convictions, according to documents filed by the court. If he does not, she is likely to appeal and could request a suspension of her sentence until a final decision is made.

The former entrepreneur has become a Silicon Valley celebrity after claiming that Theranos machines can perform routine blood tests on a few drops from a finger prick. Once valued at $ 9 billion, Theranos collapsed after the Wall Street Journal ran a series of articles, starting in 2015, suggesting its devices were faulty and inaccurate.

Holmes was indicted in 2018 on allegations of investor and patient fraud. Last week a jury found her guilty of four investor-related counts, acquitted her of four patient-related counts and found herself in a deadlock on three other counts. .

Holmes had agreed with prosecutors that his conviction should take place in September, given “ongoing proceedings in a related case.”

From the people, by the people

Each legislative season involving a projected state budget surplus sends a wave of varying opinions about what to do with “inflated” reserves. Broadly speaking, there are two main opinions, give it back to taxpayers, or keep it for government use. This being an opinion letter, here is my opinion, so if you want to bail out now, here is your chance.

I just don’t understand the “give the money back to the people of Minnesota” argument. Isn’t that where it is now? Someone once said, “A government of the people, by the people, for the people.” Was this person wrong? Have they always been wrong? If not, at what point did our government cease to be “of the people, for the people, by the people?”

The idea put forward by the Liberals and Conservatives that government is a separate entity from the people of this state and this nation for that matter is ludicrous and dangerous. The government is not a company that we have hired to provide services, it is us.

And, how is a major tax refund different from the government “handouts” that many of us complain about? To avoid that, I guess we would have to go back and figure out how much each citizen paid to make sure they don’t get reimbursed a dime more than what they paid. How far are we going? Do we repay last year? Last five years? What if someone doesn’t start paying taxes until this year?

Look, I understand, there are elected officials that I’m not a fan of, and there are indeed issues with our government that need to be strengthened, but this is the best system we have right now. So maybe rather than going through all this mess for a little individual government gift, we instead use this money that we collectively threw in the pot to improve the collective good.

Come to a caucus meeting or a committee hearing and we can all discuss it. After all, that guy who said, “A government of the people, by the people, for the people,” his portrait hangs above where we are having these discussions. He had to be on to something. We should listen to him.

Why doesn’t Biden move to unite the country?

Watching the Biden administration attempt to compare 911 and Pearl Harbor to the January 6 riots in the capital has been so divisive at a time when we must work together on the serious issues and challenges facing millions of Americans today. ‘hui.

I fully support an investigation and prosecution of those responsible, but I also wonder why the security of the capital was far from adequate given the size of the crowd.

I believe most Americans are righteous and want President Biden to succeed for the good of the country, but he continues to deviate from his own failures like Afghanistan and his promise to end Covid by constantly blaming the administration of President Trump.

A good president does not forget the past but does not dwell on it either and is committed to truly uniting the country. I have lost all confidence that President Biden is capable of doing this.

Walt Huemmer, Saint-Paul

Want to unite the country?

Never before in my memory has a President of the United States attacked a former President a year after the election with such vitriol that I heard on January 6, 2022. “He’s not just a former president: he is a defeated former president. ” Gone are the vestiges of the will to unite our country.

President Biden repeats the meme of seeking to unite our polarized country and proclaims the truth as if he is the sole holder of the truth. He ignores polls, such as the NPR poll, which show that only 32% of Americans believe the attack was a planned insurgency, while 28% believe it was a protest or riot turned uncontrollable, and 17% that it was conducted. by opponents of Trump (Antifa and government agents). While a majority disagree with Biden’s assessment, he speaks as if he does, and he wants us to think that he unites the majority behind his interpretation of the insurgency. Should we believe that he is telling the truth when his vitriol reveals that he is lying to us about the search for unity?

Likewise, Biden ignores the majority of Americans (70%) who support some form of voter ID, but he seems to think the majority of Americans support eliminating voter ID. Biparty commissions have proposed voter identification to prevent voter fraud, as voter registers contain ineligible, duplicate, fictitious and deceased voters, and they are easily exploited by using postal ballots to commit fraud . Why would no one want to ensure the integrity of the election and prevent the events of January 6, 2021? Let’s make every legitimate vote count by eliminating potential fraud and restoring confidence in our electoral process.

Respect the origin of the name of our state

I am distracted and irritated by the abbreviation of Minnesota as “Sota”.

The other day I saw a display of shirts bearing the inscription “Sota” with an illustration of the state. I have never heard anyone refer to the state as “Sota” other than the creator of this shirt and a reporter from one of the state’s news outlets.

The heart of the matter is that these two have chosen to discredit the meaning and origin of our state’s name. On July 2, 2020, journalist John Harrington wrote an article published in USA Today titled “How Every State Got Its Name: Half Of Them Of Native American Descent.” Regarding Minnesota, he wrote: “The name ‘Minnesota’ comes from the Dakota Sioux word ‘Mnisota’, the Native American name for the Minnesota River, which means ‘cloudy water’ or ‘water tinged with the sky.’

How is it that in January 2022, omitting part of the name is “smart”? Where is the inclusiveness, the recognition and the respect in the boutique department of this store? As a Gen X student, I was taught, and thus learned, that Columbus sailed to the blue of the ocean and made life better for everyone, paving the way for America. . This is embarrassing and incorrect information. Unlearning and relearning is a laudable process and 2020 has been crucial. It’s time to turn around so that “Sota” is not visible.

On the one hand, it’s just a shirt. On the other hand, this is what is taught and therefore learned.

It may have come as a surprise when Donald Trump Jr. told a group of young conservatives last week that, from a political point of view, following the teachings of Jesus “has not brought us anything.”

However, it was a definite disappointment that the son of the former president put his cards on the table so boldly. He eagerly rejected the scriptures that have served mankind so well for 2,000 years.

Here’s what Trump Jr. said on December 19 to an audience at the Turning Point USA conference:

“If we get together, they can’t cancel us all. OKAY? They won’t. And that’s going to go against a lot of our beliefs because – I wish I didn’t have to participate in the culture of cancellation. I wish it didn’t exist. But as long as that’s the case, folks, we better play the same game. OK?

“We’ve been playing T-ball for half a century as they play hardball and cheat. To the right? We turned the other cheek, and I sort of understand the biblical reference – I understand the mentality – but it hasn’t helped us. OKAY? This has brought us nothing, although we have given up ground in all the major institutions of our country. ”

Where to start First of all, if Trump thinks conservative Republicans can’t play tough politics, he’s dreaming.

In 2016 and 2020, Senator Mitch McConnell used the rules to put two Conservatives on the United States Supreme Court. As early as 1988, ruthless GOP agents like Lee Atwater attacked Democratic presidential candidate Michael Dukakis with nasty ads on the Massachusetts governor’s record. There are dozens of other examples.

But most disappointing about Trump’s comments is that a large number of conservatives who heard him probably agree with him. Assuming that their audience included a number of evangelical Christians, how do they reconcile “it didn’t get us anything” with the teachings of Jesus that many of them try to defend?

On Relevant Magazine’s website, Tyler Huckabee made a nice observation:

“Trump is more right than he probably thinks here. Christianity is a poor way to gain worldly influence. Almost every page of the Gospels tells stories of Jesus refusing earthly power and urging his followers to do the same. In fact, there are few things Jesus spoke about as much as the Upside Down Kingdom of God where “the last shall be first” and “happy the meek”.

“Further, he warned against seeking earthly influence, going so far as to proclaim ‘woe to you who are rich.’ Reading the scriptures as quickly as possible would leave anyone feeling that this is not a manual for getting things done.

Moreover, Trump is wrong when he says that trying to follow Jesus’ teaching in politics has done the Conservatives nothing.

If he’s still mad at losing his father to Joe Biden last year, then show a court enough fraud evidence to alter the results. The former president is something like 0 for 60 in that regard, including several losses in the Supreme Court, where a majority of justices have said they will not hear his demands.

Other than 2020, Republicans continue to do quite well in politics. The party controls legislatures and executive powers in many states. In Congress, despite President Biden’s victory last year, Democrats are operating with the smallest majorities that are likely to disappear in 2022. (Question: If Democrats were such cheaters last year, would- they must have won much bigger majorities in Congress? Does that mean they didn’t?)

“It didn’t get us any money,” Trump Jr. said. Seriously? With Roe v. Wade likely to be struck down or greatly reduced, does he really think the Tories got nothing?

Encouraging conservative evangelicals to ignore the teachings of Jesus is a horrible strategy.

Jack Ryan, Enterprise-Journal

An attorney for James Bonet said his disillusion with the old USDA food pyramid nutritional guidelines led him to believe in election plots.

WASHINGTON – New York man faces jail time for smoking marijuana in a US senator’s office during the Capitol riot says his road to believing the former electoral fraud lies President Donald Trump started with the food pyramid.

James Bonet, 29, pleaded guilty in October to a charge of entering and staying in a restricted building. As part of the plea deal, the government agreed to drop a much more serious felony charge of obstructing the joint session of Congress that could have earned Bonet up to 20 years in prison.

Bonet was one of hundreds of pro-Trump mobs who entered the United States Capitol on January 6. Inside, he posted a number of photos, including one captioned: “Right on the doorstep, this is our house, we’ll take it.” return.”

In another post, Bonet uploaded a selfie of himself holding a seal to his lips in Merkley’s office, with the caption: “Smoking in the capital [sic] building.”

The Class “A” misdemeanor charge Bonet pleaded guilty to a maximum sentence of one year in prison. On Wednesday, his lawyer, Lisa Peebles, argued in a note that a probationary sentence would be more appropriate.

Peebles said Bonet – whom she described as a “curious and impressionable young man” – had come to believe the unsubstantiated claims of Trump and others, including attorneys L. Lin Wood and Sidney Powell, at the the subject of a large Democrat plot to overturn the 2020 election. Wood and Powell have since been sanctioned by a federal judge for filing lawsuits promoting the claims. Powell, Wood and others are also the subject of a $ 1.3 billion libel lawsuit from Dominion Voting Systems.

“James believed that Wood, Powell, and Trump were sophisticated, highly educated intellectuals,” Peebles wrote. “He couldn’t imagine that they would be spreading false statements, especially the president. James believed Trump was trying to defend the constitution.

After listening to the assertions of Wood and Powell, Bonet himself began to question the integrity of the election results. But the pump for him to be wary of the media and the government had already been primed, Peebles said, by his disillusionment with federal dietary guidelines – especially the food pyramid promoted for years by the US Department of Justice. ‘Agriculture.

“He linked his distrust of media advertising to the Food Pyramid after losing 150 pounds from February 2021 when he cut out carbohydrates, dairy and sugar,” Peebles wrote. . “He wondered why throughout his school years, he had been taught to embrace the food pyramid when it caused great weight gain… This revelation prompted James to attend the rally on January 6, 2021. He wanted to seek the truth.

The USDA used the Food Pyramid between 1992 and 2005 to visualize the number of servings Americans should try to eat each day of various food groups, including grains, vegetables, and fruits. The pyramid has been criticized for its perceived friendliness to the economic interests of the food industry and for the bundling of all fats and oils, despite the evidence for the health benefits of unsaturated fats.

The Food Pyramid was updated to a more recent version called “MyPyramid” in 2005, which contained a new staircase symbol to signify the need for exercise, and completely replaced in 2011 by the current “MyPlate” nutrition guide from USDA. The MyPlate guide puts more emphasis on fruits and vegetables and was seen as easier to understand than the food pyramid.

Bonet’s own disillusionment with the old USDA dietary guidelines “coincided with social media attacks on mainstream media” and a concerted effort by Trump allies to spread false information about electoral fraud, Peebles said.

“James was misguided by this political propaganda spewed out by the Trump administration and the far-right movement,” she wrote.

Since his arrest in January, Peebles said Bonet has returned to school, started jujitsu and quit smoking marijuana. Peebles said Bonet is trying to embrace “what he now believes to be a blessing.” As such, she said, a probation sentence would adequately deter him from any future criminal activity.

Bonet will appear for conviction before U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan on February 20. The government has until January 10 to file its conviction notice in his case.
