Ex-Fox Execs, Sports Co. Cannot Dodge FIFA Bribe Charges

By Rachel Scharf (Nov 1, 2021, 2:57 p.m. EDT) – A federal judge in Brooklyn on Friday refused to quash criminal charges against two former Fox Sports executives and Argentine sports marketer Full Play Group as part of the FIFA corruption investigation, claiming the corruption allegations are well within the standards set during the appeal of ex-Enron CEO Jeffrey Skilling.

In July, Carlos Martinez, Hernan Lopez and Full Play decided to dismiss April 2020 accusations that they bribed South American football officials for lucrative broadcast rights for the Copa Libertadores tournament. They argued that the government cannot control foreign activities under wire fraud laws and that the indictment’s allegations of honest service fraud are unconstitutionally vague.
