Irish people targeted by new iPhone 13 scam on Instagram as reports of fraud attempts rise

Irish people beware of a new Instagram scam doing the rounds, where users are told they’ve won a new iPhone 13.

It appears to be affecting hundreds of people, both on these coasts and in the UK.

The scam mainly targets users in the comments.

He tells them that they have won an iPhone 13 Max Pro phone, then invites them to follow an account in order to contact the contest organizers.

The catch, of course, being that 99% of “winners” have never participated in any giveaways.

And it’s really starting to annoy people on social media.

One person wrote: “Where can I pick up the iphone 13 i just won on instagram?

Another asked, “Did anyone else ‘win’ 5+ iPhone 13 today on Instagram

“Part of me believes I did indeed win an Instagram contest to win an iPhone that I didn’t enter,” laughed a third.

While a fourth said: “Say what you want about Instagram toxicity, but I’ve won five iPhone 13s in the last 48 hours”

This comes after a long year for Gardai in its attempts to crack down on fraudsters, with 2021 seeing a massive increase in the number of fake text messages, calls and email links.
